Line Maintenance should be understood as any maintenance that is carried out before flight to ensure that the aircraft is fit for the intended flight.
This would typically include Pre-flight checks, daily checks (before first flight) fluids, failure rectification as well as minor, scheduled maintenance tasks that may include:
- – Scheduled maintenance including A checks (or equivalent , or “out of phase”) and/or checks including visual inspections. It may also include internal structure, systems and powerplant items which are visible through quick opening access panel/doors.
- – Minor repairs and modifications which do not require extensive disassembly and can be accomplished by simple means.
- – Defect rectification
- – Trouble shooting
- – Component replacement with use of external equipment if required. Component replacement may include engines.
TIM AEROSPACE undertakes line maintenance activities as follows:
- – Line maintenance as defined in aircraft maintenance programs
- – Troubleshooting and defect rectification within scope of approval
- – Pre-Flight Inspection (PFI);
- – Daily Check (DLY);
- – Weekly Check (WKY);
- – Planned checks of type A (or equivalent)/1000FH/6MO and multiples up to 8000 FH/18MO.
- – “Out of Phase” control with initial assessment or individual assessment process each time.
- – Special inspections defined in the appropriate section of the aircraft maintenance programs (hard landing, lightning strike, etc.)
- – Service bulletins, airworthiness directives that do not require complex operations with extensive dismantling.
- – Replacing LRUs that may require the use of test equipment (if necessary), including engines.
The organization ensures before performing any activity that the work can be performed within the scope of the line maintenance authorisation.
Typical line maintenance tasks

- Tire changes
- Engine replacements
- Brake replacements
- Interior cleaning
- Exterior washing
- Cabin pressure checks
- Aircraft refueling
- Aircraft servicing
- Software updates
- Component replacements
